After his masterful two-volume study of the Father of the Nation, historian Ramachandra Guha latest book weighs the disagreements and debates that Gandhi had with other major thinkers - and that later generations have had with Gandhi’s thoughts. At this session, he will describe the engagement with Gandhi’s ideas by such figures as Ambedar, Savarkar, Lenin, Einstein and Mandela.

These debates foreground some of the vital questions of human existence that we still confront: How do we best resist political tyranny? How do we mitigate discrimination on the basis of caste, gender and race? And how do we achieve freedom from poverty and deprivation without destroying the planet?
