‘Aamchi Mumbai: My City in Stories and Poems’ emerged from a conversation, which continues in this session, between Literature Live! Poet Laureate 2016 Gulzar Saab and scholar and translator Rakshanda Jalil, about his long decades in Mumbai, how it was when he first saw it as a lad stepping off a train from Delhi, how it has changed, the people he met here, the friendships forged, as also how it evolved from Bombay to Mumbai. Essentially, the book also affirms his inseparable identification with the city as reflected in the title. This fascinating journey finds representation through poetry and short fiction written in Urdu by Gulzar Saab, expertly translated by Rakshanda Jalil.
