Things I Want To Say To The Man Who Loves Me

Amanda Joy Puravankara

Poetry

You really know me, don’t you?
Even the parts I have hidden well, you can see them
Can’t you?

You can read my thought clouds
But you’ll smile as I tumble through my words.
You notice when worry starts to burrow between my brows.

When my eyes are brimming
You know which fear is circling.
You carry me when my knees start buckling.

You’ve known me a long time, haven’t you?
Longer than my family seems to.
Only you hear the words I am screaming through.

And all of it is beautiful-
But all I want to stay forever true
Is

That you are immovable and you are calm
Your voice is gentle and your chest warm-
No matter how I crash, you are the beach that is home.
