The Homeland's an Ocean is award-winning poet, translator and essayist Ranjit Hoskote's new translation of the great 18th-century Urdu poet Mir Taqi Mir's poetry. Traditionally, Mir has been seen as a poet of unrequited love and thwarted desire. In Hoskote's fresh critical reading and contemporary translation, Mir appears as a many-sided poet of melancholia, irreverent humour, love, spiritual quest, and audacious social and political vision.
Hoskote will be in conversation with lyricist and dialogue writer Kausar Munir about Mir, his poetry, his life and times, and the resurgence of Urdu as a language of passion and reflection.
