Time,a thief

Sara Khan

Poetry

A nostalgic encounter, takes me there
To someone I knew, a few years ago.
The person is now shut in the old albums
Of which only the memories remain.
I look at her and emotions flow.
Hidden in the slight smile of the face,
Her looks so tender, so naive.
Her smile so dazzling, rarely seen these days.
Reflecting innocence in a relaxed soul
Unaware of the time that flies.
Her lustrous brown hair, unlike mine.
My hair scarce now with wisdom highlights.
As I keep looking at her,
I recall the joys , being the source of her smile.
I wonder where have they gone now?
Maybe trapped in the burden of silent obligations.
The brightness in her eyes penetrates,
through my glasses of vision into my soul.
As if she has a lot to convey.
I too have a lot to explain , a lot to say
But an invisible bridge exists in between,
Swallowing the words yet to be spoken
The experiences felt, the journey covered.
My family around talks about the time that passed by,
Of the two stars that never meet in the same sky .
One of those stars is me,
The other one is this old photograph of mine.
