Motherhood

Title: Motherhood
Two pink lines popped all of a sudden,
A surge of emotions cuddled,
And I knew I was a mother.
The seed disappeared into my cushioned uterus,
My hormonal story began to unfold,
And I knew I was a mother.
I heard the lub-dub, lub-dub in an ultrasound room,
The invisible seed made its appearance with a zoom,
And I knew I was a mother.
Hypertension greeted me; I tested myself day and night,
With my own sentiments, I would fight,
And I knew I was a mother.
Complications surrounded me from all sides,
A series of medications by my side,
And I knew I was a mother.
The best day arrived wrapped in tension,
A little nudge in my belly, and my son was taken away,
And I knew I was a mother.
The cold NICU stared with grim hope,
I saw a life attached to wires and tubes,
And I knew I was a mother.
An empty cradle in my tiny room,
My hopes pinned to the NICU room,
And I knew I was a mother.
A battle was fought and won,
And finally, we were one,
And I knew I was a mother.
Breastfeeding challenged me,
Developmental delays smiled at me,
And I knew I was a mother.
Days of lockdown brought a new tension,
Trapping my son inside our home,
And I knew I was a mother.
COVID-19 engulfed a tiny soul,
It broke me completely from a whole,
And I knew I was a mother.
The pandemic passed, and he entered school,
Separation anxiety broke us apart,
And I knew I was a mother.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder settled into our lives,
My son and I smiled,
And I knew I was a mother.
Hyperactive by day and night,
He stays in and out of my sight,
And I knew I was a mother.
Fighting separation anxiety for four years,
We finally settled into his school,
And I knew I was a mother.
Less sleep, more talk,
No rest, just move and walk,
And I knew I was a mother.
New battles pop up from nowhere;
Enjoying the questions, I look for no answers,
I know I am a mother.
Motherhood gave a new shape to my story;
I am the author, and my son holds my pen,
I know I am a mother.
My scars are not visible;
They shine only in the darkness,
I know I am a mother.
I swim but drown,
Hope is my crown,
I know I am a mother.
I am no superwoman;
I am ordinary, living in every other household,
I know I am a mother.
Amidst my chaos and mess,
I still find life beautiful,
I know I am a mother.
My son is my treasure;
I'll give him my life with all my pleasure,
I know I am a mother.
Intact is my identity;
I preserve it with the utmost dignity,
I know I am a mother.
Motherhood is a part of womanhood,
However, a woman is complete,
Even if she isn't a mother.
