Cimetière du Montaparnasse

Swamini Harshe

Poetry

I was filling out a form when she whispered.

No you're not that — don't check that box.

Nothing but air and blurry silhouettes around,
Pen in the fingers, tighter than before,
put closer to the paper.

Yet again was the sound heard, she was not whispering anymore.

Sprung from my left side,
a true Vamangi,
She stared at me - the father of all mothers.

Oh Simone, go away, do NOT pull my pen back.
I've read about your ideas,
about your sneaky links,
about your queer interests,
And of your death,
And of course, of your Grave.

No matter what you do,
FEMALE check box is
always
SECOND
to the MALE check box.

I filled out the form and left her behind.
