A witch and a bitch

Sanskruti Marathe

Poetry

poem 1

I want the beat of my dance to crawl up your spine like a vicious wine.
I want the rhythm of my bells to seep deep into your blood and make it run.
I want the romance of my words to linger on your skin like rain water.
I want the scent of my being to course through your hair and make you wild.
I want the sparkle of my saree to blind your eyes with beauty.
I want to disrupt you with my seduction,
I want to break you with my wiles.
I will lure you into my warmth.
Warm initially.
Twisting into fire.
Turning red with agony.
I am everything you fear.
I am a witch.
I could let you off on a warning.
But I don’t want to.
You should have been better, more careful.
There will be no warning shots.
I am going to have to kill–
I am going to have to let you go.
My love, you could have made this a paradise.
But now in this paradise lost,
I am left with nothing but
Fervor
Desire
And the Romance of your death.

POEM 2

Pleasure and pain.
Your death will be a push and pull.
I will avenge you with pleasure.
I will revenge you with pain.
Though I was raised to foster,
Soft, comfort, homeliness.
But I birthed into a vagabond.
It didn’t happen overnight.
I shifted.
Moved from tender to thunder.
It took time.
Every bone and morsel of my being, transcending identity.
Transcending into a blazing bitch.
And here I am.
Can’t go back.
I left no breadcrumbs.
