Padmashri Sitanshu Yashaschandra is among the most celebrated poets in India. He combines the traditions of Sanskrit, Apabhramasha and Gujarati literary cultures with experimentations in poetry, plays and critical discourse, exploring contemporary realities. His poetry anthologies have been translated from Gujarati into English, Hindi, Bangla, Marathi, Rajasthani. He was Vice Chancellor of Saurashtra University, President of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad and taught at the M S University of Baroda. He was a visiting professor at the Sorbonne and the Universities of Pennsylvania, Jadavpur and Gujarat Vidyapith. He was Chief Editor of the Encyclopaedia of Indian Literature at Sahitya Akademi. He has Doctorates in Comparative Literature and Indian poetics from USA and Mumbai respectively.
