Conceived and curated by Bhasha Centre and presented in collaboration with the NCPA, Picnic with Playwrights is an event that puts playwrights and playwriting centrestage and in the same playing field as other proponents and works of literature.
On November 9th, we have an eclectic mix of people, whose only common pursuits may well be playwriting. Ashutosh Potdar, playwright, educator and co-founder of Hakara; Shikha Talsania, long-time actor on stage and screen and newly-turned writer; and Vinita Sud Belani, actor, director, writer and founder of Enacte Arts, California will be in conversation with one another. The questions they have for each other range from the secret sauce of Marathi theatre, experiences of touring with Peter Brook’s The Mahabharata, writing for oneself vs writing for others and a whole lot more.
And they will read. Excerpts of books, plays, short stories and essays that describe their journeys and their observations, all to the live piano stylings of Kaizad Gherda.
Add to this, colourful picnic sheets, fruit baskets, sandwiches, fresh coconut water, sunlight dappling through the palm trees and the Arabian Sea gleaming across the street, and you’ve got a perfect Sunday morning.
