The story of how a wish came to be
11
Prose
if you look a little beyond the clouds, sheltered beneath the moon’s shadow, lies a crowd of stars. a single diamond connects them all. they seem scattered, as if they wanna run away, but the taste of togetherness is so sweet. if you listen carefully, they’ll tell you the story of how they came to be.
once upon a time, there lived a flower. she was full of innocence - for her white seemed to shame the softness of the clouds. her growth knew no bounds - blooming wherever she liked, her roots also growing with her. but our flower was not happy. she always looked up at the stars. wishing she could reach them someday. her peers laughed at her, saying that she only belonged to the earth. “the ones that belong in the sky are clouds. just because you look like them, doesn’t mean you are the same.” but the flower dreamt on.
she tried flying. her petals stretched out like wings, her eyes determined. but the stem pulled her back. told her where she belonged.
she tried to call out to a cloud once, the cloud stopped. turning to look at her, know her wish to reach the sky. the clouds only sneered, and our flower hardened.
she tried running and flying, and crawling and walking, but the roots just pulled her back.
and so one day, she started praying. she prayed to the stars and the sky, murmuring diligently to let see the sky once.
hearing her plea, the sky god’s heart warmed. he was pleased by her little wish. when he heard it, he knew he had to fulfil her wishes.
he said to her, “there will come a being, desperate and hopeful as you. what you need to do, is let them wish on you, and you bring these prayers to me.” he smiled, and vanished.
our flower was nervous. but when she heard those berated footsteps, heavy with the weight of the world, she knew what she had to do.
she saw the human crying. she looked up to the skies, and cursed the life she had been given. our flower sat, watching. until a tiny breeze swayed, and the flower’s scent wafted into the human’s nose. she looked at the flower. as soft as the clouds, as full as the oceans. the human plucked her out, and stretched out the head towards the sky, as if trying to measure the distance between them. hopefully, just a few petals away. the human prayed, wished and pleaded. the flower heard it all. the human took a deep breath, and blew.
and the flower finally flew. reaching the stars, she told them of the wishes, prayers and pleas the human had before the flower reached there.
the sky god was pleased. “in honour of getting people’s wish to us, i shall draw you in the sky. the stars are grateful, to be able to serve you, dandelion. and from now on, whenever someone wishes to send their hopes to the sky, it will be through you.”
and the dandelion still flies, in honour of the first dandelion that carried wishes across the sky, and dared to fulfill its own. you blow a wish, and the stars hear you.
have you looked up, today? maybe your prayers are being answered.
