The Pier
9
Poetry
It's been a while since we last saw the pier
Overlooking the crystal blue water
Cold as ice, yet warm with memories
Of laughter, tears and tranquil silences
The day we stumbled upon it
Remains etched in my mind
A consequence of your awful jokes
And my streak of clever retorts
The pathway had cleared
To reveal one of the best things in my life
Had I been given the choice
To choose an alternate reality
You know just as well as I
That I would spare nary a blink
To the offer that doesn't hold a candle
To the bliss I felt that day
You ask the same now
Reminiscent of old memories
If I would have chosen to be there
And I would respond with the same reply
I would spend forever on that pier if I could
Just to go through all of it
Again and again
