The Numbers Don't Lie, But They Never Add Up

She clocks in at dawn,
Maintaining a future, almost gone.
Same sweat, same pain, same hours, same debt.
100 cents on the dollar? No, not yet.
The numbers don't lie,
But they never add up.

Patience doesn't pay the rent, nor feed the child.
It doesn't fill the gap in the paycheck, nor turn tears into a smile.
Pockets empty, house full,
Crushing weight, expectations to pull.
The numbers don't lie,
But they never add up.

Her worth weighed in 50 cents,
It doesn't even make a dent.
A man's dollar, her dime,
Profits off her unpaid time.
The numbers don't lie,
But they never add up.

As debts pile up and dreams decay,
She walks through the fire to pave the way.
She stitches, she bends, she lifts, she grieves,
She clocks in early, yet barely leaves.
The numbers don't lie,
But they never add up.

The bills stack high,
Wages stay low.
She's told to climb,
But they cut off the rope.
The numbers don't lie,
But they never add up.

A table set, but plates unevenly piled—
Some brimmed full, others left mild.
A bed left to make,
A dinner left to bake.
The numbers don't lie,
But they never add up.

The numbers don't lie, but they twist, they bend.
They favor the bosses, not those who ascend.
The numbers don't lie, but they cheat, they scheme.
They steal from her labor, her right, her dream.
She's done with patience, enough with their empty excuse.
The numbers don't lie, but she's cutting them loose.
