Come August

12

Poetry

Circumstances come once in a while,
that you simply cannot ignore.
Still we danced, still we smiled
I can’t say much more.

Come August,
Bring her memory
Come august,
In song and poetry
Come,
In all her shades and hues
Come August,
I’ll always think of you.

Promises that I can hardly forget.
That have since been broken.
She’d hold my hand and
say I swear.
And leave the front door open.

Come August,
Like some sunken dream
Come August,
As if I were seventeen
Lie to me but
Don’t say something untrue.
Come August,
I’ll always wait for you.

Did we live or was it
Just a fantasy?
Did you smile, when I
Showed up on your screen?

A lot has changed in between
And I have come to regret.
A few things here and there
But mostly, I just forget…

Come August,
Remind me once again.
Of what it was that I used to be
back then.
When I still laughed
and ran at the count of three.

Come August,
Come and set me free.
