When the World Feels Heavy
21
Poetry
Your phone feels heavy in your hand,
A weight you don’t understand.
The screen glows bright with laughs and plans,
While you just try to stand.
You force a smile, you say, “I’m fine,”
And draw a crooked, fading line
Between the person you show outside,
And the one you hide inside.
The coffee’s cold, the room’s a mess,
You’re wearing yesterday’s same old dress.
You’re tired of trying to do your best,
And feeling like second-best.
You scroll through names, you pause and start,
There’s an ache right in your heart.
It feels so hard to even part
The curtains, let alone restart.
But listen close, just for a while,
Behind that artificial smile,
There’s strength in you, behind the trial,
Worth walking one more mile.
The sun still rose and touched your wall,
The raindrops still remember how to fall,
The world is big, and kind, and small,
And waiting through it all.
There’s someone who would miss your voice,
Not for a reason, just because.
There’s still a life of your own choice,
Beyond this pain and cause.
So text that friend. Sit on the floor.
Just breathe right through the shaking door.
You’ve been through this and so much more,
And you are worth fighting for.
