All wars cause human and physical devastation. They also leave an intangible imprint on language. This poignant session explores the ways in which death and displacement, fear and violence, and the overturning of normal life can change the meanings of words. Through a Ukrainian poet and essayist's interviews with those fleeing their homes after Russia's invasion of their country, we learn how the meanings of some words can become blunted, others sharpened, yet others might become defunct, while dormant words can re-emerge to signify something new.
