Yesterday and You
Saikat Mitra
It still feels like yesterday,
When I fell prey!
Prey to that beautiful face
And the depth of those eyes,
And still more to that heart
That was a gold mine.
A long yesterday it is
For it holds too many memories.
From the first time our eyes met
To the first ‘Hi’ we exchanged,
From the first time I made you smile
To the time when our kiss made you shy.
Am halfway through my ‘yesterday’ now,
As my memory guides me through our times together!
From those evenings by the lakeside,
To the never ending night long conversations we had.
In its twilight now,
‘Yesterday’ suddenly hits hard,
As it slaps me with thoughts
And plethora of those!
Thoughts on what might have went wrong,
Thoughts on what could have been,
And then finally on what is and what might be!
You have moved on,
And so have I!
Life didn’t stop for the either of us,
Nor did time.
We didn’t make it through ‘yesterday’
And here I am today,
With a heart that’s heavy,
Heavy with memories of all the love and colour filled ‘yesterday’
Even as a colourless ‘tomorrow’ beckons right ahead.
