The Scenery
Shreeka Jandhyala
The warmth of the soft glow
Slowly turns my skin to gold.
The sun finally accepting defeat,
Giving a chance for the ones in the dark to win.
The temperature's falling,
cooling my mind
Taking the pain away
leaving only peace behind.
As I look at the scenery beyond,
My mind goes round and round.
Thinking of all the questions and possibilities
But there's only one that haunts me
Why is it so hard to accept the reality?
Water sloshes around my leg,
Soaking my clothes wet
I wish I had seen the look on your face,
But all I see is your silhouette.
Hearing a noise, I look around, only to find a cat
Nipping at the dead fish on the land.
The beauty of nature, the life cycle
All float across my mind, making me spiral
If this is peace,
I never want to get out of here
If this is freedom,
I never want to disappear
As I sniff around for the earthly scent,
The reality hits hard
The sun never went down,
Burning my skin
And nothing was turned to gold
Just my hurt tenfold.
