Social Media: The Ocean of Lies

Pranav Bagade

Endless scrolling through feeds we stare at our screen with envy
Polished, highlighted images make our self-worth weep
The foundation of relationships is disturbed by earthquakes of comparison
As we compare our lives with an ocean full of deceiving smiles

In the grand ballroom of social media,
Masks of perfection cover up battle scars
Those same battle scars that should be worn like badges
As distorted reflections paint a deceptive scene

Life is a desert, a desert full of disoriented wanderers,
Eternally chasing the mirages of validation,
Looking for water to quench the thirst of emptiness within,
And chasing the trail of goals, leading to quicksand disguised as success.

Regularly watering the roots of the irrational habit of comparison,
Which are your storms with someone’s flourishing garden on a sunny day,
Comparison is the thief of joy they say, A thief who keeps reality locked away
Reality so hard to embrace, correlation feels like the only escape.

The importance of the present is foreshadowed by the need to exhibit perfection,
The need to support each other is foreshadowed by the need to come out ahead,
Instead of chasing the fake diadem of glory, clothe yourself in the cloak of self-love
Your truth is your reality, let it guide the stories and highlights of your life.
