Sand Castles
Kasturi Ghate
We build sand castles
in people and places,
Then see them fall apart,
destroyed by the crashing waves...
Washing away all memories
faster than sand falling in an hourglass.
We weave them blue and lavender
in threads of silk
Forming quilts
that feel warmer than a sunny sky
With smiles
that speak louder than thunder.
We click photographs,
to trap moments in eternity.
Only to realize the mortals captured in them
are slaves of change & tragedy.
We jump off towers
made from bricks of unrealistic expectations,
We poison ourselves
with screens of false validations,
Writing a Romeo & Juliet fate for ourselves,
a futile attempt to end feuds of miscommunication.
We listen to musicians
from cold deaf ears
Singing their melodies,
for a sad smile or two...
We walk along gloomy beaches,
and complain of the sorry state of affairs.
Tales of poverty and hunger on the streets
we narrate in poems by the undulating shores,
Only to build pretty sand castles on them
The very next day.
