Loneliness hungers for more loneliness

Aayushi Bohra

Dripping conversations from the corners of sultry mouths,
Seep into me; and diffuse inside
Evoking no response from my paralysed consciousness

They utter words at lightning speed
Mocking and gawking at my disabilities
I am dead meat for hungry souls to devour

I sneak out when they're not looking
And camouflage into the background
So no more hands can crawl up on me, and no more eyes expectantly stare into mine

What is the process to merge into the crowd
And stand out at the same time?
Where is the manual for the same? Or is there any?

Swinging jaws coordinating with vacant expressions
Emit a smokeless fire
Leaving not a remnant of proof of it's existence;
Promises as empty as their vile bosoms

When the crowded streets begin to look a lot like your side of the bed soaked with salty dreams
Where your loneliness lies snuggled up with you
You try to escape it only to learn that it's a futile struggle

Both loneliness and apathetic beings catch up to you to feed on your delectable insides
Like monsters on moonless nights
Till you become empty, just like them
