I love you

Dr Dwijisha Katkar

When I say I love you
I mean all of you

Every inch of you that exists, in this space and time
How it drives me so beautifully insane

The cracks in your heart, through which the light seeps in
Spilling over into your bones and mind

The scars you keep hidden, the screams and tears your pillow swallows at night, the insecurity you feel, so wretched indeed

The pause between your words, the hopefull glances
Everytime you think someone finally noticed that one cute line in the movie, and repeats it back to you

The books you carry, the lines you annotate
The songs you have memorised, each lyric that sends a shiver down your spine

Your silent cries in the bath, the stars you draw around your scars
The way you obsessively clean your room on every bad day

The smile you reserve for the people you love and even tolerate, because that's just how giving you are; forgiving even the worst that has come your way

Your strength in caring for anyone who needs it, because you know exactly how it feels to be completely desolate, to not have family or foe understand you

The art you love, sometimes eclectic and other times very mainstream, how you hang them on your walls
To feel like you are a part of something bigger than all of us

How you stand your ground and try to be brave through it all, even though you've seen true monsters in the dark

Your laughter and cries and all your sighs, that beautiful expression on your face when you witness something truly authentic
How you are unpologetically, you

The addictions you struggle with, and your spiralling mind, the echoes in the dark that whisper your name
The face in the mirror that always finds faults with yours

Every dark place you go to when you fall oh so silent, the way you twist the strands of your hair nervously, but still put your best foot forward

Every memory of your essence engraved, like a spell in my brain, written in history, you are my destiny's child

Because,
When I say I love you
I mean every part of you, and
I will love you through it all.
