Be A Little Mad

Mahieka Vikram Gidwani

Be a little mad, I dare you -
it cannot possibly scare you
to be a little mad, so do it -
put no thought into it,
and be a little mad! It’s only when
you stop following convention again
that the little grey cells
of which Poirot often tells
can claim to be genuine…
The concept may send you in
a train of thoughts
to the whys and why-nots,
but don’t get down there;
take a detour, and stop where
things make no sense.
Dispose of the tense,
worried skin you heavily carry -
the kind worn by every Tom, Dick, and Harry
and design your own.
Enjoy the state of being alone
in your own little corner of your own little mind.
Be a little mad, let yourself unwind
before the senselessness you keep around,
the thoughtlessness, that is quick to surround
your unfed brain;
Free it of the pain
that routine, and structure, and normalcy create.
Give in, watch the pain abate
while madness ascends before you.
Be a little mad, open the door you
were always hesitant to push down.
Wear proudly your self-placed crown
of madness. Let people remark -
they may be right, but keep that little spark
anyway, and urge it to grow.
Be a little mad, just so you know
that when things don’t seem right in the external space,
you always have that fun, little place
where you can be a little mad.
