Poetry

Alexander

Nitesh Mohan Verma

Twenty three men
Men with wives and children
On their knees
Women begging for forgiveness
But justice will be served
As traitors they are
Let the deceitful stand witness
Those who conspire and connive for peace
Raise your swords and daggers
We’ll put on a show for the world today
A show of blood, screams, violence
Death to the traitor
I pronounce
The fallen rise again
To prey and conquer

Bring me more men
A dozen, two dozen
A hundred more
An army of rebels at my command
Surrender or perish
Bowing heads or listless bodies galore

Oh mother!
You lived disillusioned
Peace is but a myth
An excuse for weak men
A truth cowards aver
Gun in hand, men at my command
I am Alexander.
