My art, my children
Anushka Girdhar
Prose
While you put out your art as content for the world to see, don't forget to save some of it for yourself.
Your raw, frayed,
and beautiful art.
It will be your rescue from places and people that leave you feeling empty, sucked, and undeserving.
Remember - no one can suck your art away.
Keep some art for yourself to stare at, in the middle of the night. And some to go to bed with on a Sunday afternoon. Just don't give all of it away because, even if the world needs your art, you might need it more for yourself.
You're the mother that doesn't need the world to approve of her child, for her to start loving it.
So keep some of it for yourself, the art that is a part of you, not like a limb: incomplete and incapable when left on its own, but like a child, uncontrolled,
free,
whole,
and still, a clear narration of his mother.
